New Tenure-Track Orientation

Bienvenidos-Wilkommen-Welcome-Howdy!

Texas State University, like its home in central Texas, is a melting pot of many ingredients. You’ll learn about holidays like Juneteenth and Cinco de Mayo. You’ll get used to seeing armadillos and deer mixing with palm trees and prickly pear and cedar and live oak. And you’ll learn that Texas State is a very friendly place.

This will become immediately apparent at the traditional opening of the academic year, the LBJ Birthday Picnic. Here, on the grounds of the Texas State University Bobcat Stadium (weather permitting), you’ll have a great chance to meet and greet, and celebrate one of the University’s most renowned alumni, Lyndon B. Johnson, with Texas food and Texas music and fun for the family.

Mixed in with departmental/school meetings during your first week will be the State of Texas State Address at which the President talks about the state of the University and other important information. This website should help you for the first few weeks as you become accustomed to our teaching and learning community as well as the Hill Country that surrounds it. Here you will find information about your New Tenure-Track Orientation and the Scholarship and Teaching Excellence Program workshops that will support you throughout your first year. And of course we have our own way of doing course syllabi and curricula vitae, so we’ll point you to the various official University and academic policies you might want to take a look at.

You should know that, as at most campuses, the best sources of guidance and helpful information are usually your department chairs/school directors and their administrative assistants. We hope you find these references useful as you get ready to settle in. Remember, here at the Office of Faculty Development, you can reach us at facultydevelopment@txstate.edu or 512.245.2112. We are here to help.

Welcome, y’all.
